Russian Wine Season will take place at O`KEY hypermarkets from 29 April to 23 June. During this promotion, more than 100 types of wine from famous Russian wineries will line store shelves, each carefully selected by wine industry professionals. Among them will feature O`KEY Selection wines, which have been named as some of the country’s best in the Russian Wine Guide. The O`KEY Selection range is assembled by experts from Russia and abroad, including Frank Smulders, our very own Master of Wine.

O`KEY customers will be able to choose between wines from the Krasnodar Territory, Crimea and the Rostov Region, at prices ranging from RUB 230 to RUB 1000. More specifically, the Russian Wine Season event will showcase wines from Kuban-Vino, Fanagoria, Abrau-Durso, Vedernikov, Golubitskoe Estate, Massandra, Sun Valley, Satera, Zolotaya Balka, Gai-Kodzor, SIKORY, Gunko, SHUMRINKA and Inkerman. This assortment does not only include household international names, but also shines a light on native varieties from Russia and the Caucasus, including Kokur, Golubok, Rkatsiteli, Tsimlyansky Black and many more.

Russian Wine Season aims to spread awareness of wines made exclusively from Russian grapes. This promotion is crucial for both broadening the choice available to customers, and for celebrating winemakers who put a lot of hard work into developing their own vineyards, only for them to compete with low-quality products made from imported wine materials and other wine drinks on store shelves.

Aleksandr Borisov, Deputy Head of Roskachestvo, commented:

“Large hypermarkets are the ideal format for providing a wide selection of wines and grouping them into individual zones that are convenient for the buyer. Over recent years, Russian wines have shown a marked increase in quality. Every year Roskachestvo publishes its Russian Wine Guide, an authoritative guide drawn up by a panel of professional tasters, including foreign experts.”

First published in 2018, the Russian Wine Guide is a joint project by Roskachestvo, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. As an annual study, the guide aims to recognise the best Russian wines according to set criteria. A panel of leading Russian and international experts, sommeliers and tasters decides on this national catalogue of high-quality Russian wines.

The criteria used to select the best wines account for its characteristics (taste, colour and smell), region of origin, vine growth, production technology and much more. The goal behind creating a single catalogue is to help customers more easily navigate the choice of wine available and to drive import substitution with high-quality, domestic produce.
